VIPLeague World Cup 2026: fixtures & broadcast guide

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is free-to-air in the UK across the entire tournament: the BBC and ITV share all 104 matches between them, so every group game and every knockout tie is available without a subscription. BBC fixtures air on BBC One with an iPlayer simulcast; ITV fixtures air on ITV1 or ITV4 with an ITVX simulcast. The two broadcasters split coverage of the final on 19 July, and a TV licence is all you need.

Watch for free on the BBC and ITV

This is the rare tournament that asks nothing of your wallet. There is no NOW pass to buy, no TNT add-on, no DAZN tier — the World Cup lands on the two free-to-air homes of English football.

  • BBC — matches on BBC One, with every BBC game also live on BBC iPlayer (browser, app, smart TV).
  • ITV — matches on ITV1 and ITV4, with every ITV game also live on ITVX.
  • The final, 19 July — shared by both broadcasters, so you can pick your preferred commentary team.

Coverage is split match by match across the schedule, which is why a single guide helps: rather than hunting two listings grids, check the fixtures panel above for the next fortnight of kickoffs, then tune to the named channel.

Fixtures, format and the 48-team draw

This is the first 48-team World Cup, and the structure is new. The expanded field is drawn into 12 groups of four. From each group the top two progress automatically, joined by the eight best third-placed teams, filling a new Round of 32. From there the bracket runs as a straight knockout to the final.

The maths lands at 104 matches in total — 72 in the group stage and 32 across the knockouts. That is a markedly busier tournament than the 64-game editions UK viewers grew up with, and with everything free-to-air there is no paywall standing between you and any of it.

Key dates to put in the diary

  • 11 June 2026 — opening match, Estadio Azteca, Mexico City.
  • 11–27 June — group stage across all 12 groups.
  • From 28 June — Round of 32 onward into the knockout phase.
  • 19 July 2026 — final, MetLife Stadium, New York/New Jersey.

The tournament spans three host nations — the United States (11 cities), Mexico (3) and Canada (2), 16 cities in all — so kickoff times in the UK will swing across the day and into late evening depending on the venue. The fixtures grid above carries the confirmed UK times as they firm up.

Beyond the World Cup

When the international break ends and club football returns, the broadcaster picture changes — the Premier League and European nights move behind Sky, TNT and Amazon. Our club fixtures guide names the rights-holder for each domestic kickoff, and the Champions League guide tracks where to watch the midweek European ties. Bookmark both for the season ahead.

One to call before kickoff

Forty-eight teams, twelve groups, an unfamiliar Round of 32 — the early form lines will be hard to read. Who survives the group of death, which third-placed side sneaks through, and whether a host nation goes deep are the questions worth settling now, before the opener in Mexico City. Make your pick, then let the fixtures panel above keep you on the right channel from 11 June to the final on 19 July.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I watch the 2026 World Cup in the UK?
Every one of the 104 matches is free-to-air, split between the BBC and ITV. BBC games run on BBC One with iPlayer simulcast; ITV games run on ITV1 or ITV4 with ITVX simulcast. No subscription is needed beyond a TV licence, and the two broadcasters share coverage of the final on 19 July.
Do I need Sky, TNT or any paid subscription?
No. Unlike the Premier League or Champions League, the FIFA World Cup is a free-to-air event in the UK. The full tournament sits on BBC and ITV, so a TV licence is the only requirement. Watch for free on iPlayer or ITVX on a phone, tablet, smart TV or browser.
Is VIPLeague.video a streaming site?
No. VIPLeague.video is an independent editorial guide to official UK broadcasters and hosts no video itself. For the World Cup we name the rights-holder for each match — BBC or ITV — and point you to iPlayer or ITVX. We are not affiliated with any domain using the VIPLeague name.
When does the 2026 World Cup start and finish?
The tournament runs from 11 June to 19 July 2026. The opener is on 11 June at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, the group stage closes on 27 June, and the final is on 19 July at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey.
How does the new 48-team format work?
